‘Mother’ series : 2004 – 2012

I first came across Elinor Carucci’s whilst researching ‘mother-art’ for my dissertation and I keep coming back to this series. Her work, whilst touching upon the taboo relationship between mother and child, the realities of raising young curious children and the traces it leaves on our bodies and identities is remarkably beautiful. Through documentations of her everyday life and milestones of her children’s lives, Carucci has created a series of works which are beautifully grotesque, painful, explicit and at times overpoweringly emotional.
